Most failed debit order collections don't fail because a customer refuses to pay — they fail because the banking details on file were wrong
from the start. An incorrect account number, a closed account, or a mismatch between the account and the person who signed up is enough
to turn a routine collection into a returned transaction,
a delay, and sometimes a dispute. An account verification service catches these problems before a single rand moves, not after.
What Is an Account Verification Service?
An Account verification Service (AVS) checks a customer's banking details against the issuing bank's own records before a debit order
mandate is finalised or a collection is run. Instead of only discovering that an account number was mistyped or an account was closed after
a collection attempt fails, verification confirms up front that the account exists, is open and active, is the correct account type, and belongs to the person providing it.
In South Africa, this kind of real-time bank-side verification sits alongside — and complements — the debit order collection instruments themselves.
It doesn't replace DebiCheck's mandate authentication; it solves a different problem. DebiCheck confirms the customer has authorised the mandate.
Account verification confirms the account details behind that mandate are actually correct.
